I adopted a border collie/healer mix from our local shelter, and he is amazingly sharp. I toss his toys up and down the hallway and he collects them one by one into a box. As a dog trainer with a Border Collie I know how much work needs to go into their training. I wish I had a pound for every time someone said " I never new they would be so much hard work". The main thing with training a collie is, you get out what you put in. Contact a trainer that has experience with Border Collies and find out what type of work the do. Try flyball, agility or even find someone that could help train the dog around sheep. If you are thinking about getting one.
